“The Great PKD T-Shirt Exchange” Come Out and Give Us the Shirt Off Your Back

May 3, 2004--WHAT:    “The Great PKD T-Shirt Exchange” is a unique fundraising event organized by Columbia College Marketing Communication Special Events Students to benefit the PKD Foundation Chicago Chapter. The purpose of this event is to attract thousands of people to come out and donate their old, clean t-shirts in exchange for a fresh new PKD Foundation shirt for $5.00. The donated shirts will be given to The Caring Closet, a not for profit that connects those in need with the support available in the community through distribution of donations. www.caringcloset.org

WHO:        Participants of all ages and walks of life.

WHEN:    Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at 10am – 1pm

WHERE:    Chicago - Music Garden at Michigan and Balbo across from Columbia College (624 South Michigan Ave.).

WHY:    Polcycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is the most common genetic life threatening disease affecting more than 600,000 Americans and an estimated 12.5 million people worldwide regardless of sex, age, race, ethnic origin. In fact, PKD affects more people than cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, hemophilia, Down syndrome and sickle cell anemia combined. Though not as well known as others, less prevalent genetic diseases, PKD affects nearly 20,000 people in the Chicago area. The PKD Foundation is the only organization, worldwide, devoted to promoting research to find a cure for PKD and improve the care and treatment of those it affects. We depend on the community and local business to support our cause.

On Wednesday, May 19, 2004, Columbia College Special Events Students will hold a Silent Auction to benefit the PKD Foundation. The event "Jammin with Jane," will take place at the Rock Bottom Brewery, One West Grand, in Chicago from 6pm – 10 pm. Columbia College Marketing Communication Special Events Students and The Eventors, Inc. owner and founder Jane Canepa and Columbia College Special Events Instructor 312/217-JANE eventors@aol.com are organizing the Great PKD T-shirt exchange.
